QUADRA RESTORATION PROJECT
The work we performed in this house was the result of a large flood that occurred on the top floor of this beautiful 3-storey home overlooking the ocean. This project had many components and various trades involved to bring the home back to life. The owners selected materials that combined modern aesthetic with traditional details that came together in a beautiful way. This was a project we were thrilled to be involved with.
DOOR and casing
The owners opted to go with a modern door, cased with a more traditional combination of trims. The fluted casings and architectural headers with the mitered returns accented the doors in a beautiful way.
WINDOW AND SILLS
We firred out the window openings with drywall for returns with a beaded corner. Once drywall returns were finished we installed red oak sills with horned aprons that contoured the beaded corners. To give the aprons some depth and dimension, we built them out and added mitered returns. The oak sills were finished with Varathane Diamond and sprayed with a clear beeswax coating.
BASEBOARD and stairways
The baseboard and expansion joint trim had a classic stepped profile. With coped inside corners and bullnosed outside corners, this trim runs fluid around the home.
BEAM and slab
The homeowners wanted to upgrade their mantel and had a beautiful douglas fir slab that they had purchased. We had the slab CNC’d and cut to final dimension, then we sprayed multiple coats of Varathane Diamond finish.
For the beam, we used red oak and gave it a decorative base then finished with multiple coats of Varathane Diamond.
THE END RESULT
This project was very enjoyable and everything turned out beautifully. The combination of 80’s retro and traditional details with some modern twists all brought the finishing work together in a way that exceeded our expectations. We are happy that the owners get to enjoy these on a daily basis.
